"The Measure of Man" 2/10/2013

“The Measure of Man”

My sweet wonderful wife mentioned a movie she had seen last night after I had gone to bed, she thought I would enjoy it.  So I engaged the evening in doing so.  Now I am here mainly, I suppose, because of that movie.

The acting was not all that convincing or adequate, but Oh, what a story!  The movie was titled, “The Measure of a Man”.  What is the measure of a man, anyway?  The true measure can be said not only of the man, but also of the woman, that measure being what God intended Him or Her to be.

The scripture defines for us who we are and the roles we play in the way we call life. It instructs us how to be fathers, mothers, husbands, wives, son's, daughters, leaders, followers, friends, neighbors, and it even tells us how to treat the surrounding animals.  It tells us everything we need to build our lives to its full measure, our homes, our communities, and our country.

Since I'm just talking here, I will mention that this morning in my teen class at Church, I told the young ladies in class if I could. I would apologize for my country for what it has done to them in placing them on the front lines in military combat.

I would never have dreamed this in America, sending our daughters to defend us, I am so sorry for my country.

The measure of man is to be the provider, protector, and the leader of his home. That measure is lived out when at times he is called upon to defend his country, as a protector of the innocence he reaches for this measure.  My posts here are all simply principles by which we as a people lived by and produced our society and built our country.  Principles of faith that were a part of our everyday life.  Even those among us who were not religious identified with those principles as right and worthy, even when we failed in our personal application of them in our own lives.

Our principles have been eroding for some time now, but it seems we have suddenly jumped off the principle cliff and have rejected every moral absolute and foundational principle we ever clung to!  What we once would have been embarrassed to mention, we now scream from the highest building.  Our fathers would have never been so embarrassed as to ask our young ladies to go to the front lines and fight for us, but now we deem it right and proper.  I fear now, after the jump, we must prepare for the landing that may not be ever so soft.

Picture We were once a people who defended and protected our families, we cherished the role God had given each of us.  We saw the men as the protectors, as such, one of their measures as a husband was to protect and provide for his wife, to honor the precious place of which God had placed her.  As a father, he was to protect his daughter's innocence till she was found in her full measure as a daughter of God.

We were never fully successful in any of those measures, but it was a mark we strove for, a part of our society.

Now we send our wives and daughters to war to fight on the front lines.  And let us not forget, many will not come home. And many of our young ladies want to go, that also is a result of our abandonment from our previous way of life.

So what are we to do?  I know of no answer except to petition our Lord for mercy that He may once again give us grace to hold in our hearts the faith we once had, once again!

May God bless each of you,

David
